Tommy Emmanuel Instructional DVD
I saw Tommy live last October in an historic church in Norfolk. Was about 25 feet from the stage. The guy is truely amazing. I talked with him for quite some time after the show. Very nice guy, an knows his shit on the guitar....MANY different styles he has mastered.
In my area, they have a "Tommyfest" every year which is a 3 day event...he gives a show every night, plus a 6 hour workshop each day. It was sold out this year (which would have been my 1st time) so I didn't get to go. It was only $100 for all 3 days!!!

The "Tommyfest" is in Newport News at the old Yoder Dairies Barn...they converted it into a performing arts center.
The church I saw him at was the Epworth United Methodist Church, built in the 1700's.

The video I saw of him he was FLATpicking better than I've ever seen. I hate people who are good at everything.

i remember tommy whipped out a chet atkins sst and tammed that fucking guitar at a show i went to last year. dave sounds great on it but to hear someone play that guitar the way its meant to play (and so much more) really shows you how diverse music and instruments can be.
Damn i wish i still lived in virginia beach, i would love to go see a tommyfest haha. the guy is so cool, hes so funny up on stage and can jam so well it sounds like theres a whole band up there with him.

One of the most amazing songs he does is "Initiation" which is a total improvisation where he uses his guitar to attempt to recreate the spirit of the Aboriginal people of Australa. He does everything under the sun with his guitar in that number....even uses those "brush drumsticks" on it. Tears his guitar up, literally.
During the show I was at last year, he said the he and his wife were going to move to the States and that they were looking at places in Virginia.

u ever hear that song he wrote (i think it was in africa when meeting some local tribes n such) that has all these tribal beats and insanley fast riffs. He beats the shit out of his guitar and somehow someway with his electrical setup he had the entire room shaking with percussion he was laying out on that thing. his hands we all over his guitar, pounding the shit out of it, it sounded awsome, i thought i was tripping with how powerful his sound got, the guy is not human i swear, he does things ive never seen people even attempt. i really like how he sees his guitar as a number of instruments and doesnt let scratches and dings stop him from doing his thing
