Talent Show coming up for me

Unread post by saiyasam » Tue Dec 14, 2004 10:15 pm

Okay,

I'm going to be participating in a talent show on the 24th of Dec, so I have a question or two.

My group decided to do Bob Dylan's All Along The Watchtower (DMB version). And drawing inspiration from the movie School of Rock, we want to put on a rock show that's gonna "change the world".

We're thinking about having smoke, lights (don't know how), and a powerpoint presentation going on in the background. All kinda like the movie.

Do you guys think that would be cool or lame?

If lame, any other ideas to spice things up? If cool, any other ideas to spice things up?

The band as of now is going to consist of an acoustic guitar, two electric guitars (who are going to bust out into fat solos), bass, and drums.

BTW, we have a 10 minute time slot.

cool if done well...really well...

lame if it is not...

unless you know someone who knows lighting, I would pass...could be more of a problem...as for smoke (dried ice) it might seem lame without a light show to set it off...a powerpoint...well I don't know about that one, but I imagine if you could do it really well that it would be awesome...

I've got another school talent thing this thursda...should be fun

good luck

i think i would not do the power point.. unless you think its really awesome, i think it would be a little tacky

lights would be cool if you had adequate setup

and try to get a keyboard or sax player.. i think that would add a lot

Talent speaks volumes, not tantric light shows.

Exactly, rock out, show some personality, and have fun. You'll do great.

In my experience, what has been done before usually has been done well enough not to ever try repeating it.

Do something original and you may be remembered long after the night has passed.

just have you guys up there. to have all those special effects up there is to draw attention away from yourselves. not everyone is "tuned in" when listening to music so if its just u they can really hear you for your talent.

you guys are smart. thanks for the advice! :D

if i can get a recording, maybe i can get copy posted on the net.

At some other show, some other friends and I performed 'N Sync's It's Gonna Be Me, as in we learned the whole dance choreography and presented it. It was actually pretty hard to learn. We got that on video and posted on the net. Ha Ha.
