Guitar Related Injuries

Unread post by mangold » Sat Nov 13, 2004 5:29 pm

I was restringin my chet last night and i had the B string bent at the end with like 1/2 inch hanging over so i could put it in the tuning machine... i had the guitar on my lap with the headstock to the left and i was tryin to string it through with my right hand (as i am right handed) and i sneezed. my left arm instictively went to cover my mouth and on its way my elbow caught the string with quite a bit of force. u know where this is going... my B string was like 3/8 of an inch straight down into my thumb. This got me wonderin... what other kinds of guitar injuries have people bee subjected to?

btw i pulled it out with a pair of pliers and an ice cube!

i saw some pics online of a bass player that slapped so hard for a long show that he had a gash in his thumb down to the bone, there was blood on his guitar and his shirt ... it was awesome

I did that once when I was playing slide guitar(not down to the bone, but there was blood all over my guitar and pickup), but It wasnt really awesome. I think because I damaged it badly and kept playing for the weeks to follow that my skin is weak in that area, because my thumb gets a huge bloodblister everytime I strum with my thumb, and before that day I never had any problems at all.

I stuck the tip of my finger a few times with the end of a string while getting it in the hole or something. Always good for a little blood.

Same. What I do is get a blanket/towels and put it over the chair, then I throw a strap on the guitar and lean back in the chair that way my back's up against it and aligned. It makes it easier if you lean against something like a wall or table...otherwise you could fall back and that just wouldn't be cool. O.o

one time when i was stringing my guitar, the B string i think popped back up and poked me right in the eyeball. That really hurt.. And I couldn't do anything about it. I felt like that chick who got her eye plucked out in Kill Bill 2.
Its like... getting two birds stoned at once. (Ricky-trailor park boys).

lets hear that story...

 its a long one, but abbreviated....

during the night of one of my friends gigs at our school (our schools "battle of the bands" competition) he saw me with his girlfriend. now he's definatly a jealous person, so after the show (his band won) he confronted me and asked
"dude what the fuck are you doin with my girlfriend?"
"what?!"
"i said what the fuck are you doing with my girlfriend?!"
"what are you talking about?!"
then the girlfriend, trying to be funny, said
"i'll just say it. we fucked in a van out in the parking lot before the show."
my friend just picked up his electric, and swung at me. i ducked, but still got quite a bit from it.

we now laugh at that.
