How did Howie Day make it?
How did Howie Day make it?
Don't get me wrong, I like Howie Day. I just discovered him and I've learned three or four of his songs. But what I can't figure out is, his chord progressions on his originals are pretty standard. His lyrics are nothing to write home about. His voice, while awesome, isn't unique really. And the only time I've ever heard him do anything really remarkable w/ his guitar was on a few of his covers. This all to say I've heard better vocals (Miguel), better songwriting (Tico), and better guitar work (Josh) on this site alone.
So I guess I just don't understand how some people get record deals while others are sitting at home w/ more skill, learning the first guy's songs.

This is why the music industry is fucked.

The looping had a lot to do with making his shows more interesting. He toured like crazy, which is what most people who don't, "make it," fail to do, in my opinion. Plus he's good looking, funny, and generally a likeable guy.
I think he's worked real hard for the record deal he has, and certainly deserves it.
But it is pretty frustrating that he gets by on six chords and a capo, ain't it?

Yeah, I think he caught peoples ear with the pedals. I'm not really a fan but he's very thoughful in the way he layers stuff. You should check out some solo stuff and you'll see what's different about it.Appsoldier wrote:i guess i haven't gotten far enough into his music to hear that yet. i had no idea.
I've never been able to get into Keller Williams. From the relatively little I've heard his music makes me want to stab myself in the ear with something sharp.
