lessons

Unread post by pablortega » Fri Oct 29, 2004 12:38 pm

Hi guys, I was wondering if any of you has found lessons I could follow to improve my playing. I have found zillions of sites with guitar curses but they all seem to have no order at all. They go from here to there.
Saludos.

Finger exercises are the easiest and one of the most important exercises you can do. Practice your picking and strengthen your fingers.

Always pick up and down.

yeah my guitar teacher is a nice person.. although hes two years younger then me. I don't think he knows how to properly teach.. Basically he just gave me tabs.. I quit those lessons and soon i'll be taking lessons with this guy who is a renowned fingerpicker in bluegrass, flamenco, classical guitar... Its gonna be awsome.

Finding the right teacher is key. I took lessons for awhile with a jazz guitarist and it was all theory. I did more towards improving my playing on my own. Then I found the guy I'm taking lessons from now. He's a Berkley graduate that plays in a Zappa cover band. His main source of income is teaching as well. I've gotten more out of two lessons with this guy than I did with 3 months with the other. It's all about finding a guy that can teach and be willing/able to show you the kind of stuff you're interested in. If you're interested in lessons, shop around!!

"I learned how to play the guitar. I taught myself which was a bad decision, because I didn't know how to play. I was a very shitty teacher. I would have not gone to myself." -Mitch Hedberg
