if you ever get the chance to see him live ...or there's a video clip online somewhere....check out him doing his song "ghost". he does a one man band thing where he'll beat a drum beat on his guitar and continously loop it...then he'll play a couple of small fills and loop that...the he'll start playing and singing....and before you know it...he'll pretty much have a full song going complete with bass, rhythm (sp?), fills and vocals. there's even a point where he'll stop playing while everything is still looping and he'll do a little bass solo in some of his performances. it's pretty cool to watch....basically building a full studio song from scratch.
i've also seen him take all those loops he just did for ghost...change the tempo....and make a new song out of it.....scratch some of the loops like a dj would do too. i had a copy of that #41 cover...let me see if i can find it for you. also if you like that type of music...the singer/songwriter style...check out matt nathanson and shane nicholson...

He does that on a good number of his songs. Ghost is a great example, though.snapoffmode wrote:if you ever get the chance to see him live ...or there's a video clip online somewhere....check out him doing his song "ghost". he does a one man band thing where he'll beat a drum beat on his guitar and continously loop it...then he'll play a couple of small fills and loop that...the he'll start playing and singing....and before you know it...he'll pretty much have a full song going complete with bass, rhythm (sp?), fills and vocals. there's even a point where he'll stop playing while everything is still looping and he'll do a little bass solo in some of his performances. it's pretty cool to watch....basically building a full studio song from scratch.

a few years ago...i was bored at home flipping throught he channels and came across a news station. they were doing some kind of artist spotlight segment and a life performance in studio. it turned out to be howie day. i never heard of him and they were talking about his work. so he sang "she says" and another song ( i missed the first song)...and thot...man this kid is good. he didn't do the looping thing or i missed it on tv. they talked about it a bit...so i figured he was just adding background work or something ....nothing too elaborate..... i go to his web site to see if he's coming to town sometime soon. it turned out the following week he was playing at the virgin mega store in sf so i took the rest of the day off from work to go see him play. that was the first time i saw him do the looping stuff and my jaw just dropped....became an instant fan since. i just thot how it's kinda funny how you can stumble across great stuff sometimes...and in my case...just flipping through the channels watching the news...hahahahaTrippnBill686 wrote:It's incredibly awesome
