John Mayer-Neon

Anyone know how Mayer is finger picking Neon on the verse? I know he slaps down with his thumb on the bass string, but what about the other notes? Sometimes it looks like he is just hitting the other notes with his thumb or picking with his index finger. Anyway i'm not quiet sure what he's doing anyone know?

he hits the bass note with his thumb and plays the other notes with the rest of his fingers. its really hard

Thats what i thought at first too but i'm watching a video of him playing and it doesn't look like he's using his other fingers. It almost looks like he's alternating between his thumb and index finger on the other notes but its to fast for me to really tell.

yeah he definately goes too fast to see exactly how he does it... theres possibly a program that can slow it down, but not sure. by the way, post 300

yeah, that is what he's doing. he slaps the bass note with his thumb, plucks up with his index, slaps the next note with his thumb and then plucks the next with his index, then change chords...

yeah, ive never seen him w/ a pic. he does a really sweet lil' picking (sans pic) that is hard to make sense of. sometimes i hear a note but i swear i didnt seem him pluck it. crazy stuff man.

not true, he plays with a pick. he plays about 50/50 picking and finger-picking. he plays with green tortex picks.

Neon isn't that hard after a lil practice... I got it down in a couple of days... What I do when i play is slap the bass note with my thumb then kick it down and pick the other notes using my thumb and index finger.... its really all about gettin your left hand worked out... right hand work isnt that hard...
