Help with paid gigs

Unread post by kcw » Thu Sep 02, 2004 9:54 pm

Ok well I perform a lot. But I have never been able to find a place to do a paid gig. Anyone know of how I can get one or know of any openings in the Washington County Maryland area? Also Im not 18 yet so I cant play in bars or anything like that. Otherwise id have no problem finding gigs. Age limits suck!

if you live near a college campus, pass flyers out to the frats.

You probably won't get a gig unless your some type of prodigy at that age.

yeah, given my lead guitarist is a prodigy... my band (formed tonight) was offered a gig for 2,000 people for the reason that the guy incharge of the roster for the bands, has a brother who is backup guitarist for me.

Well I try not to be arrogant. So I wouldnt call myself a prodigy. Though I have been told my songs sound radio quality even though i dont really think so. But that may be just a self consious kind of thing. I have progressed in two years more than people i know who have been playing for four and five years (though they dont play as much as I do either). I'm self taught by the way. And Im not trying to be arrogant. Even though that is how it sounds.

i know people call me arrogant on here some, im not, i have no reason to i just look at my friend daniel playing, then look at myself, know hes muuuuch better and weve been playing ecentially the same amount of time, he just took it more serious for a longer time. but yeah, i mean my originals are good, need some lyrics and what not.

Well I spend about 6 hours a day playing. I have been writing good stuff for about a year but ive been writing ever since i started. Im somewhat happy with some of of my stuff but i dont like others. I need a band to make them sound better but the recordings are obviously not proffessional. I need digital stuff. Im not going to post my original stuff on here, this may sound silly, but i dont want people to steal them. Plus the recordings suck.

6 hours a day...I don't think anyone your age really plays that much. If you go to school, that means, being generous, you get home at 2, play till 8, eat, do something, like hw...etc...I don't find it plausible.

Don't worry about gigs man, just enjoy the music.

Well......of course 6 isnt an everday occurance but its definately that or close. As little as 3 and as much as 8. But I never do 8 in a school day. Weekends gets up that much. Ive done 12 once. That was a one time thing though that i have never matched or gotton close to again. But yea i normally play 6 hours a day. Homework only takes about an hour.

And I find more enjoyment is playing in front of people than playing alone. When I perform its the coollest thing ever. And I would really like to get paid for doing something I like doing instead of working at a fast food place to pay car insurance.

Well, there's a difference between being arrogant and being proud of what you've accomplished. :)

Just stay grounded and never stop learning.

If you are a solo artist you may have a hard time getting spots at clubs because a lot of places only book bands unless the venue is a coffe shop, gallery, etc.

The best thing to do is to see as many live acts as you can and be friendly, network as much as you can. I know you're under age, but eventually you can gain entry to clubs and you'll be surprised, the people you meet may open up some avenues for you.

You never know, you could open for a band and gain a little recognition in the venue and they may book you.

You have to get your name out there and make some sort of demo and literature with your name and contact info.

Peace,

CJT
