Adjusting pickups

Unread post by GreyStreet41 » Mon Aug 23, 2004 6:46 pm

On my electric I was told that if I adjusted my pickups a little bit higher and tilted them towards the neck a little bit more I'd get better tone and sound out of it. Is this true??

If not, What are some ways I might adjust my pickups to receive better tone? I have 3 pick ups going. One right below the neck, one single in the middle and then a Double Seymore Duncan towards the bottom..

Any tips?

uhhh, well if your pickups are shit, nothin will help, and if theyre good, i dont think it'd make a difference. but if you decide to anyway, i know mine have screws on the sides, that i loosen or tighten to raise, i dont use it though.

dont adjust then too close or else the magnetism will decrease your sustain

i have no idea what exactly adjusting them will do, but im sure there are some different sounds you can get

varying the distance between the pups and string will produce different tones. i guess it's up to you to go through it and see which one you like. if you have 3 pups ....then you have a 5 way switch right? so when you adjust them, make sure the switch is on the first, middle and last position (in phase is what it's called i think) as opposed to the 2 and 4 position which is out of phase. basically the out of phase position uses two pups at once. put the switch in the first postion....i think that's the neck pup. pluck the e string and make the adjustments to the pup while the string is ringing....you should hear a difference in the tone....
