Advice on recording equipment

I'm thinking about starting to record myself playing but am unsure where to start. I know that there's a shit ton a people here who know about this stuff so if ya'll could give me some suggestions I would appreciate it.

My guitar doesn't have a pickup and I don't have a mic so I'm starting from scratch as far as the equipment goes.

EDIT: If you could include a ballpark dollar figure for any suggestions you might have I would appreciate that.
