Yay for new Strap pins
I went to the guitar shop yesterday and asked how much to install a strap fin behind the base of the neck so i wouldn't have to tie my strap to my headstock......$5!!!!
So I had it done. It's really weird. It's definatly gonna take some getting used to, but it looks more professional now. The guitar just sits a bit more vertical now, I can't see as much of the neck/frets, but it'll just take time. I'll just play a whole whole bunch today and then it'll be good.

My old guitar didn't have the pin behind the neck and when I got me Taylor I was so greatful it had it. I hate tie-on straps.PilotC150 wrote:I went to the guitar shop yesterday and asked how much to install a strap fin behind the base of the neck so i wouldn't have to tie my strap to my headstock......$5!!!!

You inspired me to call my local guitar shop today to check on this, because I fucking HATE having to tie my strap to my neck. Their reply:
Pin itself: $2.95
Labor: $2.00
Time: 5 minutes, while I wait.
Thank you.

I had mine put on the curved fin where the neck joins the body. The pegs are very small so they don't seem to alter the sound at all. At least on mine it does'nt.PMGreyStreet wrote:Since they have to drill into your guitar, does adding the pin change the sound at all?

wouldnt it not change the sound anyway if its connected to the base of the neck, not the actual resonating chamber of the guitar?PilotC150 wrote:Not at all. They put a felt washer between the guitar and the pin so there's no vibration or scratching.PMGreyStreet wrote:Since they have to drill into your guitar, does adding the pin change the sound at all?

Actually, the neck is part of a factor in the vibration of the guitar-everything vibrates on it unless specifically isolated, like strap pins- although it is not nearly as important as the body of it.
