John Mayer: A Lifelong Phenomenon or out the door?

Unread post by Oahu » Tue Mar 23, 2004 12:25 pm

Just wondering if you all thought that John was going to stick around for some long length of time (ala the DMB) or if he is on his way out. Peace.

This'll all probably flame up some old Dave Vs John stuff

I hope it does.

I say no, because he's too ugly. And Dave is much more cuter

Im gonna say no, because he dosnt have the live following like DMB, phish, ben harper, ect. When his songs stop playing on the radio, alot of his live audience will leave as well.

i'm really not sure, i mean he's only had two cd's right?

i think he'll be around for a couple more years at least. and about his "following" did anyone see Any given thursday? GEEZ that guy is the man, i've never seen so many girls at a concert and they were hanging on his EVERY word. he's such a great musician though that i don't think he'll ever be completely gone from the music scene.

Hasn't he had 3 or 4?

Heavier things,
Inside wants out,
and Room For Squares.

Maybe inside was an EP, I can't remember.

AGS doesn't count.

I don't think he'll stick. He's a flash in the pan.

I think it depends on his songwriting. I hated him when he first came out and now I just kinda hate him. I have a healthy dose of respect for his ability but his songs fall short 9/10 times. If his songwriting matures and he learns how to write a decent lyric I think he could be around for a while.

I doubt that his present success will last a long time.. The young teens who fill the stadiums will grow older and have new interests. But there are lots of people who enjoy his musical ability.. He definitely has the potential to write many more hits. I'm certain that he'll stick around for years to come.. if not as a songwriter, as a guitarist.

i wish he was a part of a band instead of a solo act because he's a great guitarist- hands down i dont think many can argue that. but i'd rather see him as a lead guitarist in a good band instead of a teeny bopper.

I was going to say the smae thing.

I think his guitar skill best places him as a lead guitarist for someone else fronting up a band. John sucks as a front man. Everytime I've seen him play, all I see is John playing for John...not for the fans. His lyrics are for the fans, for those teeny boppers who love his cheesy lyrics and pay top dollar to see him and hear him talk too much between songs about stupid teenager shit.

All I know is that he is a musician. He will not stop because it's what he loves to do. AND he will always be respected in the music community, pop-culture or not, because he is an extremely talented musician.

Whether he remains 12yrs strong as DMB is....probably not that big but there will always be people following him

Well said boss. I don't consider John a teeny-bopper act, though it does kinda suck that he's getting that reputation. I liked his music before most people ever even heard of him, I was telling my friends this John Mayer guy is going to be huge, just wait.

Now he is huge, making lotsa $$, and swimming in a sea of groupies
He's here to stay....so stop playa hatin'
