no one said theory is bad.

theory is like grammar. it can HELP you write if you have the talent to do it. knowing more about the language you are speaking can only help improve the realization of your vision. but if you don't have the talent and you try to show off your grammar skillz, then you're just being mayer. i mean wordy.
"Forget about what you are escaping from," he said, quoting an old maxim of Kornblum's. "Reserve your anxiety for what you are escaping to."
w/ that said...damn i wish i could write music like mayer. he's got great guitar stuff
I hear ya dude, you'll get no arguments from me about whether or not Mayer is technically proficient at his instrument. In fact, I think it would be hard to find another *POP* musician out there that has comparable guitar skills.

His guitar playing is inspiring, and for me thats good enough. But when I'm in the mood to listen to music for its overall impact, I rarely ever pick up a Mayer CD. I mean Clapton is a guitar god, but sometimes he makes stale records that don't reach people at an emotional level. I think thats where Mayer is at right now. His music is catchy but his lyrics are god awful and sometimes he comes off as being a pompous ass.

It doesn't help that he makes all those weird faces whle he's playing too :D

I guess as long as I play guitar, I'll be a Mayer fan. But I'll probably be a Ben Harper fan my whole life.

yea, im not really even a fan of mayer right now. but i can see him maturing in the next couple years with more emotional lyrics. and as soon as he does, i can see myself as a big mayer fan. id also like to see him develop his voice a little too. we'll see i guess.

Dude, your blind loyalty to Mayer is apparent. You can't tell people to open their minds when you won't listen to anyone's opinion because you're always in the mindset that Mayer is better than everyone.

Mayer's guitar skills are amazing, but he has a lot of learning to do in the vocal and songwriting departments.
how is his loyalty to mayer apparent? he's said many times that he doesn't listen to a lot of him

Thats strange considering that he's tabbed out some of the songs on Catherine's site and also JMTABS.com. Also I see him post regularly on MyStupidMouth.com. I just thought he was a pretty big fan.....

of course I'm a big fan, but I don't post on mystupidmouth.com much...in over two years, I don't even have 1000 posts and most of those came in the beginning...and I just tab it b/c I can and most people can't.

Its not an accusation dude. I'm a big Mayer fan too, and I've used several of your tabs to learn his songs. I love his guitar playing and it makes sense to me that you would value him over Ben Harper because of his more complex guitar playing. I was just voicing the opinion of those who disagree that Mayer is a better musician, thats all.

Yeah, thats a great song. I really like Amen Omen off of his new album. That song is just amazing, and its real simple to play too.
