Haha, my guitar is actually my primary way of meeting girls. It's a good weedout method because:
I go play in a public place, and if a girl approches me she has confidence. If she knows my type of music (I.E. More than just Crash and Satellite) we have something in common. And I can usually improv a song about her, and keep her laughing or smiling. PLUS, if I'm stuck for words, I DON'T HAVE TO TALK because I can just keep playing my guitar.
It's how I've met my past three girl friends, and two good friends that are girls.
I find that a good rendition of Crush will get a girl going. One time I played Hands Down, and that worked amazingly well on Sheena... Here's a list of some of my trial and error:
Hands Down - Dashboard
Crush - Dave
I'll Back You Up - Dave (Only for hardcore Dave fans though.)
The Scientist - Coldplay
Green Eyes - Coldplay
The Professor - Damien Rice (Worked like hell on Sheena, but she just enjoys when I really get into it.)
Such Great Heights - Iron and Wine rendition
Two Step - Dave (Again, this was for Sheena)
Haloween - Dave (Don't ask me how...)
There are more but I think you get the idea. I also noticed that girls will jump on you if you really get into it. Seriously, let go, feel the music and play hard. Any girl who'se remotely worth it is going to appreciate your zest for the guitar.

it doesnt hurt playing the guitar when it comes to meeting girls that's for sure. and i use it to my advantage if the timing is right. i dont really like to be that guy who just starts playing, but usually people ask me to when im chilling somewhere. i say if its to your advantage why not use it. its not the sole purpose i play though
edit: and teegs is right a good version of crush goes a long way

I've been playing norah jones songs on guitar a lot and they go over quite well, especially with choir chicks who can handle the vocals.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away
