mofatt... you started trying to play this song this saturday give it some time... second... I would not suggest trying to play it at 1/16th of the bat... you will start missing notes and you will learn bad habits... thirdly... play is super slow... then as you get more comfortable speed it up... and lastly... see if this can help you... http://www.gopednation.com/jason/neon-videos/ look at the slow electric and use that to build your basis... where this guy just rest his hand try to rock yours back and forth and slap the thumb to get that thump on the string...

wow, haha i just started to learn this song today. very challenging. i can play the intro alright, i can hit all the notes pretty well. the slapping i have not yet moved to. i am still getting it down good. I hope to have it down pretty good in the next week... i love to attempt to learn the really challenging songs though, seems like its more fulfilling(sp?) in the end when you learn it.

tomek, oh my God. Seriously, you play it better than the man himself. I am in disbelief. You are the man.

ok this song is pissing me off again. For those of you that can play this...what patten do you do for the slapping? Do you hit the note and then slap and then note....etc.? Thats prolly confusing to everyone but can someone just record the slapping part?

how about this...how many times do you slap the guitar throughout one measure of the intro?

once for the first three measures, and twice for the fourth measure. rinse and repeat...

All this talk, now I have to check out this song too.

Okay, I just snagged a video of Mayer doing this song on Last Call and I have two observations:

1) That's a pretty neat song.
2) Mayer looks so like Xander from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I find that way too amusing.
