And NJPearce, Jimi Thing is not about Hendrix, just so you know.
The actual riff of Jimi thing is exactly that, a tribute to Hendrix. The lyrics themselves are about the positive effects of drugs, but the actual song was called jimi thing because it was a hendrix-esque riff.
The guitar riff wasnt written by dave to sound like or be a tribute to Jimi at all, it was just a coincidence. It didnt have a name and Carter wanted Dave to play it one day and said, "Hey dave, play that jimi thing" because he thought it sounded like a hendrix song. As for what the lyrics are about, Ive heard a few differnet explanations from Dave in recordings I have.
IF its called Jimi Thing because it sounds (or CArter thought it sounded) like a Hendrix riff, then couldnt you consider the riff a tribute to Hendrix? I wasnt saying Dave wrote to honor Hendrix, but in that it was a riff that sounded like Hendrix and was called Jimi Thing, isnt that some sort of a tribute?

ok, just to all this jimi thing being a tribute to hendrix or not, or however you wanna phrase it....the title is Jimi Thing...and its spelled J-I-M-I....you dont spell it that way unless you have jimi hendrix in mind. period.

The other day we swung by the Rock and Roll Hall or Fame (they were closing in 30mins, so we didn't go in...got to see some free shit though  ) and I saw some Jerry Garcia guitars (very nice)! My grandpa was like..."Man he was awesome on guitar!" All I could do was recall that I never heard anything that made me think he was something special. Maybe it's 'cause I don't have a real ear for metal, but I don't find him to be great at all!

Timmy may be overrated on DMB fan sites, but other than that he is very underrated.

I like some of the stuff that he does, but a lot of his stuff has no melody. I like guitarists like Santana, where you can actually somewhat hum the gutiar lines and solos. They have a melody. Almost any musician or songwriter you talk to will tell you that melody is the most important part of a song, and in songs like Stream I don't hear any melody at all. He has great technical ability, but I see a lot of his "music" as a combination of gimicks.

Stream is possibly the most overrated Tim song.

don't get me wrong, I love it, but it's my least favorite Tim song.
