I have come to the conclusion that simple is definitely better (most of the time). There are some guitars that rock, and have a basic spruce/mahogany or spruce/rosewood body and little dot inlays on the fingerboard. Then there are masterpieces like some of the Taylors (the w65 that Dave uses comes to mind). But most of the time, simple is just optically better...
