i think you guys are making this way too complicated. it seems everyone is trying to combine guitar and voice into one thing, whereas one of my keys as of late in improving my voice is understanding the difference between the two. i treat my voice nowadays like i treat my guitar, i really try and work on intonation and some of the tougher vocal rhythms. i often listen to songs, then before i even pick up my guitar and find the chords, i figure out the root and just sing it (with the lyrics) a few times until i feel i am ready to get the guitar down.

i guess my whole idea is to just treat guitar and voice as separate instruments that you are combining together. i am also a firm believer that thinking this way will make you a better singer, and will allow you to be more musical with your voice when writing original music as well.
