This is the place to talk about guitar playing not done by Dave! Topics about techniques, styles, theory, and other guitarists go here.

I tried out different guitars for a year before deciding which one to buy.
I was set on buying a Martin because of Dave but I played a Breedlove guitar and was just mesmerized by it's sound. Try one and I guarantee you'll love the sound. They only put out around 300 guitars a year so they pay attention to alot more detail when making the guitars. check out the website. http://www.breedloveguitars.com

Hey folks,

I've been shopping around for a Taylor, and have done a bit of price research... I've specifically been following eBay auctions to gage what the going price for 'like new' Taylor's is.

Here are some basic ranges.

Taylor 300 series:
300: $700's
314ce: $850-$950
314ce limiteds (like the legend of the fall Koa or the 02 maple): $1050-$1300

A guitar store near me in Pittsburgh sells brand new 314ce's for $1129

Taylor 500 series (the 514ce is used by Jars of Clay by the way… of course, they now have their own limited ed)
514ce: $1500 - $1600

Taylor 600 series:
Bigger range here since you can colored versions… some have better ‘flames’ on the maple and command a higher price
614ce: $1700 - $2000

The guitar store near me has these on sale for around $1850

The 700's tend to be priced about $100 - $200 higher than the 500's.

814ce's have been going for around $1800 - $2000... unless you're talking limiteds or Brazilians... 814BCE I've seen for around $2500.... the new Cocobolo limited 814ce has been going for around $2200.

Hope this helps... btw... my personal preference is Taylor over Martin.

tacomas?

Unread post by rin » Thu May 01, 2003 6:48 am

i was wondering what ya'll think of tacomas. my parents got me one for my graduation present, and i'm kind of nervous, having never played it before. my dad has a chief, which is nice but the sound is a little too bright for my taste. have any of you played their dreadnoughts? what did you think?

Of course it's not an exact number but a ton less than the Martin or Taylor who manufacture on a line. Anyways I'm not trying to get into a big debate about guitars just trying to help. But I spent $2200 on mine and it took about 3 months before it came in but the quality and tone are just incredible.

Just a follow-up to my earlier email regarding prices of Taylor's. Today, I was at a Guitar Center. With the exception of the Baby Taylor, priced at $259, and the Big Baby at $329, their prices seems skewed really high. For example, the 314ce was around $1300... the 714ce was around $2250. There are obviously big profit margins built into their prices... something I didn't expect from such a large retailer. If purchasing a higher-end Taylor for a Guitar Center, I would definitely negotiate on price.

i want the 614ce, and i keep seeing it for 2200. that'd be great if it was 1850!

The 614ce is on sale now for ~$1850 at http://www.pnsmusic.com

They have a sunburst version as well as a regular one. I think they are 2001 models... but they're showroom... never been owned
