I'm at the point where I can pretty much figure out whatever I need by ear. there are still occasions where i'll just get frustrated and use a tab (like my guitar playing, i'm still a beginner at that) but with my bass playing i'm at the level where i know enough what i'm doing and how songs are structured to figure it out on my own. the first thing i click on here is ndmb. oh well

this stuff frusterates me just because it frightens me because slowly, but surley, the jusicianship is being sucked out of music because people are too lazy to learn it the RIGHT way.i like tictacs wrote:I'm at the point where I can pretty much figure out whatever I need by ear. there are still occasions where i'll just get frustrated and use a tab (like my guitar playing, i'm still a beginner at that) but with my bass playing i'm at the level where i know enough what i'm doing and how songs are structured to figure it out on my own. the first thing i click on here is ndmb. oh well

Yeah, things like counting, writing music, etc. are very important...but many ppl concentrate on those things, forgetting that music is FEELING first of all...Beauford33 wrote:just the fact people ignore a simple tool like countingi like tictacs wrote:because of tab? that post was hard to decipher.

yea, it is. but its important to find the most efficient way to express your feelings. You can be pissed, pick up a guitar with little knowledge and play something "okay". learn theory and the essentials and have a feeling and express that on a guitar with the knowledge, you will be amazing.Sciaracastro wrote:Yeah, things like counting, writing music, etc. are very important...but many ppl concentrate on those things, forgetting that music is FEELING first of all...Beauford33 wrote:just the fact people ignore a simple tool like countingi like tictacs wrote:because of tab? that post was hard to decipher.

I dont think you really need to learn theory and essentials...It's important to find your way of playing, and this could even be opposite to the theory...Beauford33 wrote:yea, it is. but its important to find the most efficient way to express your feelings. okay, Id like you to find some that knows theory and essentials, and find someone that doesnt (not too hard around these parts) and have them play something out of feeling. I will bet an incredible amount that the person with the knowledge of theory will sound like god next to the other person. Im all for "feeling", but you should understand something so you can express yourself the best way.Sciaracastro wrote:I dont think you really need to learn theory and essentials...It's important to find your way of playing, and this could even be opposite to the theory...Beauford33 wrote:yea, it is. but its important to find the most efficient way to express your feelings. how can you have something that is the opposite of theory? do you even know what music theory is?Sciaracastro wrote:I dont think you really need to learn theory and essentials...It's important to find your way of playing, and this could even be opposite to the theory...Beauford33 wrote:yea, it is. but its important to find the most efficient way to express your feelings. It comes from the fact that most times ppl that know theory and essentials have been playing more than ppl dont know that stuff...Beauford33 wrote:okay, Id like you to find some that knows theory and essentials, and find someone that doesnt (not too hard around these parts) and have them play something out of feeling. I meant that u dont need to know theory to play...u just need to know some scales and u can even create your own stuff...Beauford33 wrote:yea opposite of theory=ignorant guitarist that deams of making it big, but never bothers to look at something other then tabs.
The example are The Beatles...they sucked in playing and they didnt know much theory...but they create something new...and it was VERY GOOD...
Anyway, I'm for theory too...I have been studying classical music (not very much...but i did and i got the essentials!
