I didn't want to participate in this thread, but........

All the Mayer bashing has got to stop. He's remarkably talented, both in songwriting and guitar playing. Exclude the song Wonderland, I wish he had never written that song. Sure, it's great for the ladies, but as soon as it became popular, he was labelled as a creampuff. Listen to his songs, Man on the Side or Wheel, and then tell me he can't write songs.

Oh, and I have reason to believe that he could outplay Dave in just about any style, including the percussive strumming that Dave practically invented.

83 is terrible, theres no debating that. Those are good examples, 2 songs out of a many isnt too good of a percentage.

I don't even think the the lyrics to Covered In Rain are good at all. 3x5 is my favorite Mayer song solely because of the lyrics, so I'll give you that one.

there is some truth to that, even ive heard john say that 3x5 was a song better than his ability to write.

Has anyone heard Another Kind of Green? It's a song that he's been playing live lately. It's got a great bluesy feel to it, and great lyrics too.

I like his lyrics, they're definitely different than Dave's writing style, they're a little more colloquial, but they still work well with the music.

John is much better at the guitar. Dave is a much better songwriter and lyricist.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

i would bet money that John Mayer KNOWS how to play almost every single one of Dave Matthew's songs (the ones he likes at least)

i would also bet money that dave couldn't play some of John's songs if he tried...

i wouldn't be surprised if that is true.

i have a lot harder time learning mayer's songs, than matthews' songs.
