Dude, I know that rap is slumping lately. You can't see a video on MTV or BET without fat asses and rims. No reason to stereotype it and cut it out completely though. Just go listen to a Tribe Called Quest album, have a coke and a smile, and shut the fuck up.

It utterly amazes me that you people cannot pull off a sentence without swearing...what oh what has pop culture done to you...tsk tsk...don't you know that swearing only destroys the continuity of whatever it is your trying to get across? Maybe I would respect your opinions more if the word "Fuck" did not appear in all them...its quite childish really.

I swear when I feel passionate about something. Maybe if you had'nt been so abrasive or, as us childish folk would say, an ass, we wouldn't feel the need to raise it to that level.

A closed mind is a lot worse than a childish one.

My mind is closed because I won't accept your horrid form of "music"?
Such a crock.

Yea I'm abrasive, of course I am...because I feel the need to defend the art of guitar from wannabes who want to impress all the little birds at school with the hottest chart topping hits.

And I mention the swearing not only because my view on that is true to the core, but also because no one in this thread has even bothered to grab my attention for more than a few seconds. I'm not going to take anyone seriously who feels the need to act so childish as to swear to get a point across, its ludicris and utterly absurd.

Meanwhile, you are all reinforcing the degradation of a guitarist instead of backing up the art! And yet you stand so true to your point! Why? Because its PC to stand up for that music now? Because your trying to make friends with the moderators? Enough is enough people, I have to finish the final mixing on this track, so I'm going to go do that...instead of wasting any more of my time tonight with childish remarks...

Not everyone picks up the guitar with the dreams of embodying the virtuosic ideals of say an Al Di Meola or Joe Satriani. Many start with much humbler goals, of say playing their favorite song (which just might be some radio-friendly Top 40 hit). The "Art of Guitar" can be whatever each individual guitarist portrays it to be. Just because you're portraying it to be some sort of mecca of pop-culture abstinence, in which guitarists everywhere spend all day improvising pentatonic licks over I-IV-V chord progressions, doesn't mean that what others do with their guitars (or with their music, [i.e. - rap], for that matter) isn't art.

Believing that for some reason YOUR idea of the "art of guitar" should be the golden standard by which other guitarists are judged is as ignorant and childish as the profanity you're so apt to criticizing.

You know, matty told me to be nice, but why dont you get lost, Ive never really wanted someone off the boards but you really are quite obnoxious. You are so close minded and come off so holier then thou, its guitar! Youve been here for a day, you dont know these people, so what if someone wants to learn a rap song to mess around with, hes not poining the craft that is guitar, or whatever you thinks goin on here. When you talk about rap youre talking about mtv and "chart topping hits" obviously youve sworn off rap just on what youve heard on tv, theres a lot more depth to it that you must not be aware of. Its not all sex, drugs, women and rims. From what matty said youre all into metal, so I guess I can see where this is all coming from, but just because you have an opinion doesnt mean youre right, chill out.

so does any body have a tab for roses, or has this post turned into another argument post. I think someone should help us out with the tab. I also like that song "take off your cool" Id like to see a tab for it too.

BTW, I think that wehn guitar is incorporated into rap, its really cool. Playin a rap song on guitar is fun and entertaining. People love that kind of stuff.

I think OutKast is pure talent and it's not completely rap either. They're making something different and good.

In the 5-10 minutes it would take to learn that song, you could have gone through some of your pentatonic scales, or written your own licks and riffs...jeez...

Fatjack? Is that you!?!?
i actually like roses, and Outkast for that matter as well. And i wouldn't even consider Roses a rap song in the first place.

if this guy actually listened to the outkast cd, he would realize that there a lot of songs on there that have many good qualities, like jazz swing feels and even compositions that harken back to stevie wonder.

and im astounded that you mistook me for this guy, i thought you knew i think pentatonic scales are a waste of time

yeah, no surtain music is better then another. When it comes to it, they are all a group of organized tones. that is it and there is nothing more. Though I may prefer some old school be bop jazz over outkast any day, I have no right to say that jazz is better then hip hop. Sure the sounds of Roy Haynes, Wayne Shorter, and Miles Davis are more appealing to me, but I have to respect the person that is the exact opposite from me.
