I like half of Inside Wants Out, all of Room for Squares, and half of Heavier Things. I think his problem with writing songs is that he starts out writing very blues/jazz type songs and tries to put a pop twist on them, whereas a band like DMB writes pop songs and then puts a jazz twist on them.

Most of it is jazz to begin with. Their old stuff is anyway.

I don't know where you guys are getting jazz from. Crush is the only jazzy sounding song I can think of.

Let's see: all of Carter's drumming and all of Leroi's saxaphone playing. Not to mention a lot of the Crash album, specifically #41.

More country if you ask me. It has that same feel and fingerpicking as Ain't It Funny

I've only listened to one of his releases (the one with that Georgia song), and I can say that it made the journey the longest roadtrip of my life. It was BORING.

Some of the songs on the newer album have what sounds like cheesy 80s synth and keyboards on them.

I was talking more about the songwriting.

The entire percussion element of Dave's playing is a jazz take off, and he uses a lot of jazz-styled chords. Not necessarily into the whole A13 to a DM9 type of thing, but changing the roots of chords. The band is very, very jazz with a bit of folk tossed in.

People, there are different elements to jazz then straight away and Kenny G. There is a thing called fusion. It is a funky version of jazz. Just about all, and I mean just about ALL, of Carters grooves are jazz based. Of course you have leRoi. Dave is very jazz oriented. People always say they arent jazz, but yes, they are very jazz. Look at the end/interlued of Busted Stuff. Let You Down, OSW, most of BTCS. SO much is jazz oriented
