Same notes, but they start on different roots.

I find the easiet was to determine a key is to take all the chords you play in a given sequence and break them down into what notes you are playing. From there you can determine what key you are in by determining what notes you are playing, and how many sharps or flats there are. The overall key of a song is a lot harder to determine, because there can be key changes all over the place.

unfortunately, Munky, someone will ask this same question somewhere down the line and you'll have to write it all over again. they'll also probaly ask for oboe tabs or something
haha well I've got a close friend who plays oboe so I'll talk to her about that. And if worst comes to worst I'll find this post and copy and paste it to anyone who needs it . Theory is basically my life. It's pretty sad, but I guess kind of helpful.

Learn the Circle of Fifths, for both major and minor keys. Break down the chords in the song to each note and use the circle to figure out the key by the sharps/flats.

i dont think knowing the order of sharps and flats is a problem for most people, its knowing what sharp and flat mean and the difference between a whole and halg step. this is a tab bred guitar world unfortunately...

can someone tell me why the fret board goes straight from E to F and straight from B to C? is it because theres no such thing as an E# or a B#?

look at a piano

between the B key and the C key there is no black (or an accidental) key. This means if you were to raise B a half step (which is what you so to sharp it) you would get C. The same goes for E to F.

why the first music theorists decided to name the notes that way is a mystery to me, probably because the key of C contained those half steps and we the key of C is probably the most common and pleasing to the ear

Its quite funny sometimes when you think about it , you'll notice alot of things like that through life , little things that makes you go " Now what the fuck was that idiot thinking when he did that " so things will stay a mystery but they work well anyway
