dave uses this one in Grey street, I like chords with alterned bass notes. The 4x222x of TSB sounds nice as wellDavy28 wrote:Also you can add the C# bass note to A for a sightly different sound. I like it.

i usually substitute the C shaped D chord (x54232) in place of any regular D, sounds a lot better to megrock wrote:wow FJ, i love that stretch. i think it is fun to use normal open shapes and change them into Barred Chords like this. Rock on.fatjack wrote:542225
the hardest is the 542255 "G" shape where you use your first finger to barre the 2's and you'r pinky to barre the 5's. i can't get there very fast but i'm working on it. i do this with "C" shapes all the time. like 9-12-11-9-10-9, etc.
and D shapes like a great high A is x-0-x-9-10-9 and his close cousin x-0-7-9-10-(0 or 9 or 12).
and the inversions 9-0-7-9-10-0 etc.

right on. there is a WSP song that uses a normal D chord then a D like you said and then the normal D and then a E with that same shape and it's like so funked out.fatjack wrote:i usually substitute the C shaped D chord (x54232) in place of any regular D, sounds a lot better to megrock wrote:wow FJ, i love that stretch. i think it is fun to use normal open shapes and change them into Barred Chords like this. when i learned that song, i was just so pumped to know that you could make other chords into barre chords and just the limitless horizon that opened up to song writing. oh i am so happy.

Most of dave's chord based live jams are based off alternate chords like you mentioned.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

this my favorite shape for the maj9 on the 6th stringgravedigger wrote:interesting. not very often can you get the 3,5,7 and 9 in one chord. That's a hell of a major chord.slimerdmb24 wrote:Amaj9 is cool, don't know if it'd fit in your song though.

Just clarifying to everyone that these are called inversions or slash chords i.e. A/C#. C# in the bass would be the first inversion. E in bass would be the second. We were just thinking of ways to give it a rounder or varied sound. Adding a C# bass note is a good way to do that.
Thats an add9 I believe. I really like this one too. It's like a mix between a sus2 and a major chord.5-7-9-6-0-0.
nice little stretch but sounds nice.
That chord is awesome. Has just a hint of sadness to it.fatjack wrote:this my favorite shape for the maj9 on the 6th stringgravedigger wrote:interesting. not very often can you get the 3,5,7 and 9 in one chord.
