I think its mostly placement of my freakishly curved index finger. I can pull on a gripmaster for hundreds of reps, which makes me believe I can press down hard enough. When I do sit down and practice barres, fatigue isn't an issue.jsgksu wrote:Well what do you think is the problem, thats crazy youve been playing for that long and cant play barre chords, Ive been playing for a year and a half and cant even remember the days when barre chords used to trip me up.QuattroDore wrote:honestly, strength cannot possibly be the issue
Perhaps I'm just not strong enough for the guage.

... i've been playing steadily for almost 8 years now... and for about the first year, i just avoided barre's all together.... honestly just practice like a mofo... and my index is curved as well..., and the only thing i can tell you is it's a bitch, just stick it out
maybe switching to lighter strings will help too, that's what i did

i was talking to my uncle about this site the other day... anyways, during the convo we were discussing barre chords, and this topic came to mind. anyways, right then it hit me, and i may know of a way to help. I know it seems kind of extreme, but my uncle has huge hands, and he plays barres by using his thumb on the low E and sometimes the A, and working it that way. I mean, i don't know how big your hand is, but i've had problems w/ barre chords myself, and although am able to play them now, I've been practicing w/ his style, and it's not half bad. Just different schemes, and weird getting used to in transition, but practice make perfect. hopefully this may help, atleast a little bit, just a thought.... peace

When you play barre chords that way, your other 3 fingers are limited as to what they can fret.....it willl work on some chords, but I think that is a bad habit to get into IMHO. I swear to you if you keep at it, at some point you will say to yourself..."why did I think this was so hard?"
But it takes allot of practice.
But it takes allot of practice.
