they just add a special sound. the octaves make it sound amazing, kinda like its more than one guitar. 6 strings sound great and are much easier to play most stuff on, but 12ers are worth the effortgcom007 wrote:why do you like them so much?shane wrote:yeah there are 12 string electrics. i heard one live at the Third Day concert i went to. theyre pretty cool, but nothing compared to an acoustic 12er.

from my experience (i currently have a 414ce) i think it sounds great even without a band. most of yall say martins for solo and taylors for a band, but i dont exactly agree. i do think that martins have a much bassier feel to them which is good for solo, but im my opinion taylors sound fantastic solo. i am a huge fan of both brands of guitar, but i would go with taylor over martin in just about every situation.

it's not about effort, it's more about punch...you can't get enough punch w/ a 12...it's just not dynamic enough...I think they sound cool with open chords but when you start doing jazz stuff on them, it's just strange...more reasons why I'm not a big fan...shane wrote:they just add a special sound. the octaves make it sound amazing, kinda like its more than one guitar.

I agree. chords sound great. like complete strumming songs sound really good. but he's completely right about when you start playing jazz and some blue on a 12er. it sounds odd.gcom007 wrote:it's not about effort, it's more about punch...you can't get enough punch w/ a 12...it's just not dynamic enough...I think they sound cool with open chords but when you start doing jazz stuff on them, it's just strange...more reasons why I'm not a big fan...shane wrote:they just add a special sound. the octaves make it sound amazing, kinda like its more than one guitar. 6 strings sound great and are much easier to play most stuff on, but 12ers are worth the effortgcom007 wrote:why do you like them so much?shane wrote:yeah there are 12 string electrics. i heard one live at the Third Day concert i went to. theyre pretty cool, but nothing compared to an acoustic 12er.

for sound, they are both great. i love the sound of pretty much all the taylors, and there are a lot of martins that sound amazing...
as far as construction goes though, taylor is light years ahead. they are so innovative with things that used to be thought of as impossible to improve upon. their UV finishes, the ES pickup, and ESPECIALLY the NT necks...brilliant ideas. plus they look better too.

I would agree w/ this statement.AdamCU81 wrote:The general feeling I've gotten over the years is that Taylor low end models are better than Martin low end, but Martin high end are better than Taylor high end. So if you have not so much money, get a Taylor. If you have money to spend get a Martin.
I have a Taylor 314ce.

I personally play a Taylor 410ce ltd, and it sounds AWESOME solo. I personally don't favor the deepness (is that a word?) of the Martin guitars. I am personally looking for another guitar at the moment, and I looked into purchasing a Martin, but in my opinion, there just is no comparison between the two. They are each for different types of music, in my opinion. I personally favor Taylors though. Just my input there!
