I take every gif I watch (which is A LOT) with a humongous grain of salt. But I don't let that grain of salt get into my eye and blind me to whatever truth can be found in what I'm watching. He is not any worse than any other poster here, and the people who claim he is just don't know what they're talking about. The demonization has gotten ridiculously out of hand.

i love tommy, i've seen him live twice, and theres nothing in the world like seeing him play. Every year hes at the Walnut Valley Music Festival in Winfield Kansas. If your anywhere close i highly reccommend it. Tommy can play like no one i've seen ever. He'll be playing 2 or 3 different lines at the same time like he has extra hands or something..simply amazing to see live...oh yea, the bluegrass festival (walnut valley) is in september every year. If you want any more info on that just let me know. peace
That guy is really good.
As I was watching, all I could think of was one person....Danny Gatton. Very similar stage presence. If you guys like this player, you should really check out Danny Gatton....he raises the talent level up several notches.
He had unreal speed, control, and mixed all forms of music....jazz, country, rock, blues, swing, etc into his own style. He would also use a pick and fingerpick at the same time. When Danny was alive, and played in the bars in Georgetown (Washington D.C. area) over half the people in there were guitar players, from all over...and they would be taking notes like it was classroom or something. Unreal.
He did this one part in his show that he would go over and take a full beer bottle from someone at one of the tables (usually always a girl), and use it as a slide.....and blow the whole house down...I mean unreal slide work. Then he would finish by chugging down the beer and returning the bottle. Just an amazing guy.
Sorry, I didn't mean to highjack your thread, but I hadn't thought of Danny Gatton is so long and this guy really reminded me of him.

I have not seen any. He put out an instructional guitar video. He mostly played electric (telecaster), but could also smoke anybody on an acoustic. Fender actually made a Danny Gatton limited edition Telecaster, which goes for mucho $$ now. Rolling Stone once described him as the best guitar player youve never heard.
Although he was an incredible player and was admired by the best musicians in the world, for some weird reason he never made it commercially. One of his albums was nominated for a Grammy, or could have possibly won one...I'm not sure. He ended up taking his own life in 1994.
If you want to get a good taste of him, check out Danny Gatton - Portraits on Big Mo Records. It gives a good taste of his wide range
Oh yeah, and guess who was playing a Jerry Jones Baritone guitar WAY before Dave....you guessed it, Danny Gatton.
OK I'll get off my soapbox now.

The ridiculocity of the idea of the word ridiculocity may only be partly understandable because of its massive ridiculocity. It's like the concept of infinity which is just an idea (btw, ridiculocity has replaced the concept of infinity. The level of ridiculocity for ifinity was not as high as ridiculocity itself).Appsoldier wrote:is Ridiculocity a word???
