yeah, on l@lc, on one sweet world I really like him, but then he starts going off and I can't stand it...it's not melodic or pleasurable to listen to whatsoever...

speed is great...SRV shreds...you like him Gcom...Tim reynolds is all about melody...shredding is an asspect that can be added but cannot sustain a musician...

SRV shreds, but not like tim, tim plays faster than just about anyone and there's no melody about it, there's no comparison, tim has little to no feel or touch with his lead style, or if he does, he certainly doesn't show it, his solo's are pathetic...it's like he's just practicing...running scales...it's like, tim, stop practacing and play some music now, ok?

mind you, I'm not knocking Tim's technical abilities here, he is an insane guitarist when it comes to technical skills, but musically, he just missed the boat...

Although it is certainly possible to shred with some soul.

Kirk Hammett would be a good example. Some of his solos have speed, some have great melodies, some have both. One and Fade to Black are probably my favorites solos out there, but then he also writes songs such as unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters.

Not to drag KH into this discussion, I'm just comparing him and saying that along with SRV it is possible to shred melodically.

except for his solo acoustic stuff. when he plays chord-melody style, its a lot better. just listen to the entire Stream album

i cant believe you guys are bashing timmy, just cause he plays fast doesn't make him any less of a musician, and i love trippin billies at L@LC, and i love stream, but i agree with isaac, the slower timmy stuff is amazing

I used to think SRV was much better than hendrix, but i downloaded a 7 minute acoustic improv of hendrix, and it just about blows anything away. I think hendrix might have held back his full ability when he was recording his albums-
