Damn, where are all my D'Add guys? There's a ton more on the boards than just me and Tino... anywho, ya. Uncoated D'Adds are the best strings I have ever played in my life. (haven't played that many, but played the main ones; elixirs, martin sp/+) I absolutely hate the tone of the elixirs, to use shane's earlier metaphor, they sound like candy to me - like a joke. They don't sound "full", I guess... i don't know. anywho. try d'add uncoateds. also, where in the hell were d'add's only 3 bucks cheaper than elixirs? my d'adds are $3.50 :) elixirs? $23 somethin...

I don't care for the tone on the coated DA's as much...

I think they wear down just as quickly as well...

My favs are the DA Phosph/Bronze med's...

I think think they are the EJ17's or something like that...

i couldn't wear my d'addarios out fast enough. i didn't wash my hands before playing, wipe the strings after, nothing to prolong the life. they're terrible. imo :)

D'addarios to me sound like what elixirs sound like after youve had them for a few weeks. I think Elixirs are much better and they last much longer. I bought a pair of Elixir Nanoweb lights and a pair of D'addarios lights and put them the elixirs on my guitar and the d'addarios on my moms guitar, we both have the same exact guitar so I was able to play both, brand new, at the same time, on the same guitar. The Elixirs were obviously much better, no contest IMO. But it all does come down to personal preference in the end.

I'm a D'Add EJ16 (phos/bronze, non-coated, lights) fan myself. I only tried Elixers once and wasn't impressed. They sounded sorta dead from the beginning. There's nothing like sound of the first hour or so of the EJ16s. Then they mellow a bit and stay that way for weeks. They don't grow beards in the picking area either...

But as other have said, it's really a personal preference....

elixers have intonation problems that are annoying when they age, and they break...doesn't this happen to anyone else?

See this amazes me. I've heard this a lot - about Elixer's tendency to break. I have never in my life had an acoustic string break except for the high G on my 12 which I think is like a 0.09 so that's understandable. For the money they cost, I would be furious if one broke while restringing. Give me my $6 EJ16s anyday....
