Sure, 98, you want him to have played the guitar, but at the same time, he's got a good point. At least he's not just regurgitating that Martin/Taylor junk that everyone does. I mean, would you reccomend, say, a Martin D-42 as a good guitar? Sure you would. Have you ever played one?

Everyone doesn't need to jump all over Shane just because he thinks a little differently. I have played a Lakewood, and I have read lots of reviews, and I have no problem saying that they are great guitars, and I see no reason why Shane shouldn't be able to.

yeah 12 string taylors are beautiful. the one thing i think taylor does better than everyone is their fretwork. i dont think anyone can make a feel like that.

why would you pay $2300 for an ovangkol guitar when you could pay $1800 for an indian rosewood? if you add around $600 you could get yourself a brazillian rosewood guitar. thats how cheap. besides the ltds taylor sells brazillian rosewood guitars for $10000.

well the one that i want is made of maple...i haven't seen an ovankgol taylor for that much. and besides, a guitar isn't just wood, it's what you do with it. i would definitely play the shit out of it before someone sold me on that much money.

well you can get an m-20 (i think thats the model with the maple) and itll still cost less than the $2300 maple taylor. email the people at samusic.com and ask them about it.

Im not doubting that the Lakewood is a great guitar....or the martin for that matter, I just think its goofy when someone says "buy this over that" when they have no experience with the product.

I'll ask again, would you reccomend a D-42, saying it's a good guitar? Have you ever played one? :)

I sure would recommend one. I've never played one though. I've played an HD-35 which is probably the best sounding guitar I've ever played. very nice to look at as well.

yeah Taylor's are overpriced but customers are satisfied with them and they're willing to spend the money so I guess they're worth the money. I prefer the Martin tone in general but sometimes I like that Taylor punch and sharp highs that it can produce. Larrivees and Lakewoods are great guitars, in the same category for quality, sound, whatever as Taylor and Martin but are just not as popular. I'll have one of each please.
good, and you?

Yeah sure, if someone said money is no object and im going to buy a D-42 I wouldnt disuade them. But at the same time, I wouldnt say get that D-42 over any other Taylor or Lakewood for that matter. Thats my whole point, that reccommending one over the other is foolish when you don't have a clue what your talking about. But I don't want to argue anymore, and I don't like to cause trouble, so I'll just shut up from here on out.

heh, I kinda agree w/ m98ter... I think all he's trying to say is just play before you buy. Which seems to be a general consensus on here. At least that is the advice I got on here when I was lookin' to get my first guitar.

However, you can also make recommendations off of reviews too... but playing it is probably the best...

i know i said i would stop but i just need to explain something - of course playing would be the best thing. unfortunately there are no lakewood/fylde/northwood/mcilroy shops in florida (im not considering brook). ive played a load of martins and ive played a load of taylors. i like taylors more, but martins are still great. however, theyre very expensive. i dont find it hard to believe that theres a better guitar for less, but unfortunately i cant find out until i make that purchase. i guess thats what the 10 day trial period is good for :)
