They are both bad, I really wouldnt go off defending either of them, other than the fact that when you smoke you always gotta get that "high" which does impair your judgement, and the only reason you dont think so at the time is because you're more stupid than before you smoked...I have had a drink of alcohol(ooooooooh) though before, just to enjoy myself and not get drunk like a moron...in that respect I would defend alkees!...the funny thing about weed-smokers is that they don't realize how much more creative and smart they could be without the dope(why do you think they call it dope anyway?)...they think it helps them become "more" imaginative or brighter...why dont you pot-heads try recording yourself playing/singing when you are high, then listen to it the next day when you are less stupid...see what happens.

...and all those "studies" talked about, they were all conducted by the biggest potheads in the world.

I have had a drink of alcohol(ooooooooh) though before, just to enjoy myself and not get drunk like a moron...in that respect I would defend alkees

first of all, i dont see why you assume that people that smoke and people that drink are two opposites-that what it seems like youre saying. Pot and Alcohol really arent THAt different in how they are used. You can smoke just a little bit and chill out, or you can take huge rips and get plastered... Likewise, you can sip a drink or drop beer bongs. You stereotype all pot use as if we're hitting a crack pipe, trying to kill brain cells off and escape from reality or something... not the case at all.

For me, pot really just intensifies my concentration, in one way or another. Its so easy to get lost in whatever you are doing.. I dont want to glorify smoking, or put it down, but its just something that i enjoy. Its not for everyone- some people abuse it, some people simply dont like being stoned. To each his own i guess, but to say that "smoking makes you stupid" is an unfair generalization of what it does to people, and why people smoke..

I dont know about anyone else, but weed doesnt change who i am... I still think the same and do equally well with my work wether im smoking at the time or not... I pretty much only smoke when i'm at school- summers are pretty much pot-free and i dont get any smarter or more creative, lol. My eyes are just open a little wider and i have to look a little more for things to do

i say if u want to smoke pot.. smoke it.. just don't go around tellin people about it acting like your a badass because u smoke..not to say anyone here it like that tho.. there's a few people at my school like that, i know some people who can handle weed, they smoke it and their fine... then i know some total stoners who are just fuckin blown away and stupid as hell.. if u smoke.. u should be able to handle it

I just wanna add something to that though .... If you smoke or drink or what ever , then fine , its your life , but i think its wrong of the people who encourage others to do it as well ....

My condition isnt going anywhere, ive been smoking for a long time and the only negative effect its had on my life is just the time spent, when i could have been doing more constructive things...

you probably know and respect a lot more "losers" than you realize.

Jason...you can't change somebody with your opinions...neither can he change your mind...you are not going to stop him...realize he is not receptive to your kind critisism and just drop it...nobody is meaning any harm here...I agree that being in addiction/bondage to anything is foolish, but just because I think that doesn't give me the right to do any more than speak my mind...not to change him, unless he is asking you to...anywho...loosen up and go DL some YES/GENESIS/RUSH/CAMEL/WISHBONE ASH ok?

well I do both.... and I don't have a peticular side on the argument but I do feel that this should be added.

Alcohol impares your brains ability more than just when your drunk, many people leave college and think that all of a sudden they think more clearly, after not drinking for a while their brain returns to its normal function. Here at SDSU I see a lot of people that are out of it when they are sober just because of what they did not only the night before but maybe 3 or 4 days.

I would also like to Include a quote from an Essay by Gore Vidal, a well respected essayist of the 20 century who wrote on all aspects of american life from politics to theatre.

"It is possible to stop most drug addictions in the United States within a very short period of time. Simply make all drugs available and sell them at cost" (Vidal, 641).

"Now one can hear the warning rumble begin: if everyone is allowed to take drugs everyone will and the GNP will decrease, the commies will stop us from making everyone free, and we shall end up as a race of Zombies, passibly murming 'groovie' to one another. Alarming thought. Yet it seems most unlikely that any reasonably sane person will become a drug addict if he knows in advance what addiction is going to be like" (642).

Just as many potheads as alcoholics.

Basically, stop the rhetoric and tell the truth about addiction like we do for alcohol and pot. California has the most ridiculous ads on TV about pot that even the people who think it is bad are thinking they are a little overbuilt!

Jason, chill out. The easiest way to lose an argument is to make broad generalizations. Can you tell us why you think people who smoke are losers? I'd like to hear your reasoning.

We can yell "I'm correct, you're wrong" back and forth perpetually. In my opinion guilty pleasures are just that. They are harmless until they become so looming and routine that they become addicting and influential in peoples lives. There are MANY MANY people in the world that are addicted to sex. It becomes so alluring that some people spend all of their day downloading porn. Our society would be in a little bit of trouble if sex were outlawed. Of course, not everyone that has sex is addicted. I doubt that many people would consider everyone who has sex a loser. So why assume this of pot-smokers?

Anything fun can be addicting.
