knowing the key
I appreciate reading the help, but how do you know what key songs are in? I hope to take a guitar theory class to help me, but who knows if I'll ever get in. Thanks.

- Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

just to make sure people know... its obviously impractical to use stuff like E#, but Fx means F sharped twice, aka G.DMBFan63 wrote:god damn man..clearly that E# is wrong..I was so fucking tired last nightLocarius wrote:Cool! E#!
No..that is definetly a I IV V..: E# scale: E# Fx Gx A# B# Cx Dx E#
x = double sharp.
just some clarification

TO KNOW WHICH CHORDS FOR A MAJOR SCALE:
(I will use the A major scale as an example)
A scale is as follows:
A B C# D E F# G#
henceforth:
In a major scale, your basic chords that fit... go like this.
the first one (first note of the scale) is major.
the second one is minor
the third one is minor.
the fourth one is major.
the fifth one is a major seventh chord.
the 6th one is minor.
the 7th one is a minor seventh flatted 5 chord.
So...
A Major
B Minor
C# Minor
D Major
E Major 7
F# Minor
G Minor 7 b5
are the chords that fit.
Play with those knowing which baare chord shapes fit with each.
if you dont know which barre chord shapes to use for major, minor, major 7, minor 7, minor 7 b5, etc...tell me..
maybe i can make a diagram and host it.
(then you can use the shapes for aaaany song you want and slide them around and such)

I call them Gm7 half diminished...atleast I believe half diminished and b5 are the same in 7ths..if I remember correctly. But yea, that works. I just say learn to read music. It makes like easier and much more enjoying.gumbomadness wrote:TO KNOW WHICH CHORDS FOR A MAJOR SCALE:
