Actually, anything that contains caffeene or alcohol is not good for the vocal chords....it dehydrates them. And drinking water or any other fluids while singing only sooths or helps the throat, not the vocal chords (there is a big difference). The vocal chords need to be well hydrated to function at thier best....what needs to be done is to drink plenty of WATER on a regular basis starting several days BEFORE a performance (The best thing to do is to always be drinking plenty of water every day). It is impossible to hydrate the vocal chords on an immediate basis.....actually, when you drink, fluid never touches the vocal chords, they are protected by a flap that closes during the drinking process.
