Most people PLAY music for the same reasons otheres take drugs. To escape, to feel sensations not regularly felt in "ordinary" life.

If you don't have the stardom to support your "lifestyle" the drugs will catch up with you and take your money, how little of it you may have, your happiness and ultimately your life.

Guys who have so much loot they can send a runner to get a ki of toot don't have to worry about work or bills or "maintaining" because they're rich and their day job is performing and playing music.

It's really a testament to how bad drugs are when your fave performer loses everything just to get high. Drugs are that good and damn it they are that bad too.

EDIT: I know who I am, and I ain't no Saint. LOL!

i dont think drugs really help their talent, but it may add experiances, and open their minds to new ideas and things.

Drugs can't help talent. But it can definitely add to creativity.

Sorry, but drugs DO NOT help anything for anybody. Sure Clapton used to do drugs, but he's been clean for a while, and I think he's been doing the best playing of his life. Mozart was kind of wild, but he was not an alcoholic, and you're right, he did some of his best composing long before he knew anything about that. He wrote his first minuet when he was 6!
Several musicians, such as Bob Marley claimed that drugs inspired them and helped their creativity. But how is Bob Marley qualified to make a statement on drugs when he was already so burnt out when he said that?
If you've ever seen the Hendrix DVD Live at the Isle of Wight, you can see what the drugs were doing to him. He played sloppily, and was starting to forget his own lyrics.

You're generalizing, and you can't speak for everyone. And have you ever smoked pot? Because being burnt out really doesn't affect your judgement that much, so I would have to disagree with you on your Marley comment.

I think if you need drugs to help you play/write, you must not be that great anyway. I have never touched anything but alcohol. If I play guitar while drunk, I just get sleepy.

Like Ranting said, I'm a good guitar player, singer, and writer, and I think any drugs would just fuck that up more than make me stellar.

I don't think anyone needs drugs to help them, they just enjoy combining the two, I know I do. I just came up with a new riff while I was high.

whatever brings out emotion to its fullest, let it be a substance. if that's what it takes to open up your mind, so be it. personally, smoking definitely puts me in "the zone" at the moment, but i'd be damned if i remember a single line or lick, minus the aid of ink.

First off when I'm drunk there is no point in me playing guitar haha it's terrible. BLAH BLING BANG you get the idea. Second of all I've never tried playing guitar while High me and my buddy are considering jamming while high. I juts think we would be more into the music along with a little paranoia hahaha

As for the Preformers Yeah the drugs are probably from personal experiences thats my guess... As for alcohol I know Ludacris drinks a 40 of JD before he goes on stage...
