Not saying you cant do it that way but the more traditional/classical way is:

E Ring
B Middle
G Index
D Thumb
A Thumb
E Thumb

I deviate from this quite a bit but I consider it home base.

For runs I generally alternate between index and middle.

I'm not too sure if this is any better, but some really good finger-pickers (Dykes, Atkins, etc.) do this:

1 Index
2 Middle
3 Ring
4 Thumb
5 Thumb
6 Thumb

This is the general "proper" technique of fingerpicking. Lots of artists who fingerpick usually use this kind of "chart" that they pick by. Not saying its the only way b/c there are many variations but it seems as this one is rather common.

The hardest thing about this song i find is its hard to remember..I can play it straight through with the music in front of me.. But i can't remember it for the life of me.
Its like... getting two birds stoned at once. (Ricky-trailor park boys).

Yes this is pretty much the proper classical fingerstyle way to play, it's referred to as PIMA where P is the thumb, I is the index, etc. This is how I learned Classical gas with that particular fingering style. It make sme laugh how you guys talk about Classical Gas (I learned it for a project at school) because I would rather play Dave but since I learned mostly fingerstyle early on Im just now getting the whole strum, slap, mute, singing deal, and well it's hard.
