Yes

and whit, i agree with you, but there are much better guitars out there for 500.. when buying an x series martin, you're paying for the name mainly. it is a cheap guitar on these standards. but there are all wood guitars for 500 and they sound much better then a 500 martin in most opinions

I as well own a dx-1 and would've give it up for a 500-800 dollar brand of any other guitar. i love martin's tone :)

EDIT: sorry, meant "wouldn't give it up for a 500-800 dollar brand of any other guitar"

exactly, in the 500-800 range, nothing beats an alvarez

i prefer the sound out of my guitar and for great sound the x series are not that bad. before i owned a martin i thought a martin was a martin. it wasnt until i joined these things i started hearing that some martins are WORSE than others. AHah whatever. they are made quite badly to be honest. u like the martin sound than get a martin which is what i like. the takamines and alvares' etc. are by far more sturdy and propably worth it as far as construction goes and maybe sound too depending on what u like. but in most cases sound is most important and to ME i prefer the martin sound.

Well, I was able to try the Martin. IMO, the Takamine felt much more sturdy than any X series Martin. I also tried the Martin DM which I liked better than anything in the X series. I also liked the cutout that the Tak. had. And the MArtin DM does not have a pickup. So I the Tak. is the best choice.

Well there is another choice. There are many used Taylors in the $500-600 price range on the interent and around town. Since this is the brand everyoen talks about around here i figure they must be good guitars. The guitars in this range are the 110 up to the 300 series. ANy thoughts on these?
