Well, I kinda assumed, I was just wondering if that was why or if there was another reason. Its just not hard to tune down to get the actual sound, just gotta make the low-e 9th fret tuned to an open a-string

In standard tuning you can't get the really low, heavy bassline that John said is a crucial part of the song. Dropped C sounds way better IMO

gcom007 wrote:I find the song pretty easy but it's because I learned the technique behind the song and not the song itself...it's basically just a bass slapping technique that's not too hard to pick up on, atleast it wasn't for me. Once I got that the song became quite easy to play. I'd work on the technique if you really want to nail this song. Too many guys out there try to play this song but they don't even have the right technique down so it sounds, well, gumpy...
Are there any good websites with lessons on this technique? That'd be quite helpful!

if I knew I'd tell you but I don't...if there are any bass players around here I'd ask them...if you take lessons, your instructor should be able to help you out w/ it.

hey whats up everybody,
i decided to try learning this song again at 4 in the morning...anyway, i think i have the slapping down, but it seems like im missing the 2nd note on the 2nd and third chords. It's the notes during the second slaps during those chords, if that makes any sense... Is he picking the string with his pointer finger as he slaps with his thumb, or is he slapping the third string with his thumb?

Hey everyone,
I tried learning the song a bunch of times and I find it a bit rough...at one point I had it to a slow, pathetically out of tune version but then I gave up. But, if it makes anyone feel better about not being able to play the song I saw a clip of Mayer playing an acoustic version on Leno and even the great John Mayer himself seemed to have a bit of trouble playing it...mind you he sings it and plays it. Just thought I'd throw in my comments.....cheers.
