If you took your head out of your ass for a second you would know that not all rap is garbage. The fact that your bad mouthing Outkast in particular is only more proof that your a shit-for-brains elitist. Why don't you try to expand the horizon.Bill Efting wrote:Who is this "fatjack"?
I get on the case because it gives guitarists a bad name, we are a dying breed, and should be out to DESTROY the garbage that is rap...not support it by arranging it.
[Andre 3000]-Humble Mumble
Too Democratic, Republic fuck it
We chicken nugget, we dip in the sauce like mop and bucket
Blue-collar scholars, who'll take your dollar and wipe my ass wit it
You living for the lotto never hit it, I met a critic
I made her shit her draws
She said she tought Hip Hop was only guns and alcohol
I said "Oh hell naw!" but yet it's that too
You can't discrimahate because you done read a book or 2
What if I looked at you in a microscope saw all the dirty organisms
Living in your closet would I stop and would I pause it "whoo"
To put that bitch in slower motion, got the potion and the antidote
And a quote for collision the decision
Is do you want to live or wanna exist
The game changes everyday so obsolete is the fist and marches
Speeches only reaches those who already know about it
This is how we go about it

As musicians, we should not be out to "Destroy" any type of music or art form . If someone is inspired by a rap song and they incorporate it into their style and develop something unique, then, more power to them. No one is to say someone can't be inspired by something to create something in their own style.Bill Efting wrote:Who is this "fatjack"?

This website alone, is a testament that guitarists are NOT a dying breed (see another example here.) We come here from all over the country and some from around the globe to share ideas, post clips of our playing and over all inspire each-other to learn, improve and add to our style of play. It was one band that brought us together and it's the many personalities here that make us unique and able show each other new ways of doing things.
If you are going to bring a closed minded attitude here, with an intent to stunt the growth of your fellow musicians, then you are not welcome here. But I do encourage you to stay and see what this extremely talented community has to offer. The choice is yours my friend.

I'm not "Close Minded" I'm "Music Minded"
I listen to many genres of music, everything from metal to opera, from jazz to punk, from baroque to black metal. I just do not view rap as a valid form of music! Expression YES, all art is a form of expression. But I refuse to accept it as a form of music, its TALKING over a beat for crissikes. If anything I am helping to advance the growth of my "fellow musicians" as you put it...wanting to play music like rap or hip hop...is only putting a damper on your advancement. I lost respect for rap when 2pac, and all the crap started, if your gonna learn rap at least learn "Rappers Delight" or something with an actual melody and music behind it, Zounds.
Guitarists are a dying breed, everyone who can play three chords thinks they're a guitarist, people who play rap songs and the latest chart topping pop tunes...those arn't guitarists. Those who put thier heart and soul into thier instrument, and seek to advance upon a path of enlightenment, those who wish to bring about change and progression into the music world, not those who simply embrace whats there and accept it as "the best", to do so is a heretical misconception of everything musicians should stand for in the first place. The point of my argument is lost now, so I'll drop it after this post, but learning a rap song is not going to help him progress in his playing in any way whatsoever, learn some music mate.

you say rap isnt a form of music, its just singing over a beat, right? So then Freddy Mercury isnt a musician, he's just singing over a beat. Yeah, we'll just go ahead and say everyone that just "sings over a beat" isnt a musician, that's a great assumption buddy. You're a genious!Bill Efting wrote:I'm not "Close Minded" I'm "Music Minded"

Singing suggest some sort of melody or tone. I haven't heard this specific song, but most rap songs are not "sung" in a tone that coincides with the track they are rapping over. I wouldn't quite say it's talking, but it's not singing either. It's somewhere in the middle.nugsta25 wrote:you're right. but its not talking, its singing

Jesus, who are you to jump on someones shit for wanting to learn a song, maybe he just wanted a song that would take 2 minutes to learn to fuck around and get a good laugh when his friends are jammin. Whatever the case what do you think you are, some guitar messiah here to lead the masses of this dying breed to further the cause, play what you want and if you dont like what hes doing shut the hell up

The irony is that Andre 3000 played guitar on their last two albums. He also played EVERY instrument in Hey Ya.Bill Efting wrote:I'm not "Close Minded" I'm "Music Minded"

The fact that you think rap is "talking over a beat" is more proof that you don't know shit. If I was as close minded as you I would go around calling punk and metal garbage but I don't.
The ultimate point is that bad music exists in every genre.
BTW, When you refer to Rappers Delight as being a good rap song it's proof yet again that you have no clue. That fucking song came out in '79!
