Anyone done any guitar instructional videos of John Mayer?

This is the place to talk about guitar playing not done by Dave! Topics about techniques, styles, theory, and other guitarists go here.

and can you really not figure out My Stupid Mouth using the song, that video, and the tab? don't you own a taylor?
Oh, I meant this part not the chorus:

Code: Select all

Part 2
This is the basic riff
In concert, he plays variations of it
e------------------------------|
b----3---3-------3-----3---4---|
g----4---2-------2-----2---2h4-| x2
d----2---2h5p2---2h5---2---2---|
a--3---3-------3-----3---3-----|
e------------------------------|

Part 3
e--------------------------|
b----3----3----------------|
g----0h2--0------0------0--| x2
d--------------4------4----|
a-----------0--5----5------|
e--3-----------------------|
Its hard to hear the guitar directly in the song first of all, thats why I want a solo recording
For the second time that video doesnt show the part that Im confused with
And what does owning a Taylor have to do with anything? Youre looking to buy a DM3MD, does that mean you're an amazing highly skilled guitarist, or even should be to own one?

that is the verse, not the chorus.
you should be able to figure it out, it's an easy song.
ownership of a taylor either implies being spoiled, or deserving it.
yes i am looking to buy a DM3MD, and yes i would say that I am a very skilled guitarist.

Jesus, its the second part of the verse, not the main part he starts the song off with so I got it confused
Ive never played any Mayer before really so Im struggling a little at the very beginning, you made it sound like you dont even know the song and youre telling me its easy
I payed for the Taylor with my own money, Im not spoiled, Im good at guitar Im just having a little trouble you snobby fuck
And yeah, Im sure youre an amazing 19 year old guitarist that needs a $5000.00 instrument

How about just thanks for the advice, now move on to somewhere else, youre such an uppity prick its unbearable.

Mayer is really hard at first. So much different then Dave (basically went straight to mayer after dave). But after a few songs and just getting a grasp of his style and getting the whole pop/blue thing going, his songs just start to flow.

I find myself writing a lot like his acoustic stuff lately. Dont think its a bad thing though. His Clapton thing is awesome

First of all, Brian_ok; you need to chill out, you dont even know jsgksu, im sure you both a good guitarists... as far as owning a taylor i dont think it really matters how good at guitar you are, if in fact jsgksu isnt good then starting out on a taylor is the best place to go. You cant grow out of it, as if you got a shitty Fender DG-5 you would need a new one like 1 month after getting it. and besides you prob. think that he has the most expensive taylor out there when he could have a big baby or a 110.
Anyway...Why Georgia's second little riff (THATS NOT REALLY PART OF THE VERSE, more like a bridge into the verse) that mess around the C chord can be pretty tricky. I can play it fairly well, but it took me a very long time to get it down. I recomend just listining to the album, pause, try it, listen to the album, pause, try it etc. thing. Or watching Any Given Thursday. If you want, I could get you a slow audio of me playing it but I dont know how to do the video. But thats my input

Thanks, I guess...

Ive been playing acoustic guitar for 6+ years, Im no slouch and I bought my Taylor like 3 years ago. I just never really played John Mayer stuff before and was getting a little held up, so I thought Id just ask a quick question, which surprise surprise turned into a shit storm with fost around the boards. Anyway, I really only just need a little help with the verse of My Stupid Mouth because I cant make out the changes in the guitar well enough on the studio version and havent found an accurate/good vid on myspace.

Oh, well can you play My Stupid Mouth, it seems like you thought I was asking for Why Georgia.

If you can play My Stupid Mouth, I guess just let me hear the verse, bridge and chorus slowed down a bit so I make sure I know all the changes, maybe played full speed once to so I can make sure I got it right when Im comfortable. Thanks man, I can play pretty much all Dave songs, just trying to get into Mayer a little and this is my first real attempt.
