Ok, I'm gettin really frustrated. I have been playin for like 5 months without any lessons other than the fine videos of KANTER. Here's the thing though I am ok, but I feel like I've hit a wall I can't get over. I can get the main ideas of some songs like WWYS, WH, Grey street, nancies.. and such but I just can't get to that next level. Anyone know of an instructor with some similar music inspirations like DMB, Mayer, J Johnson, ect. I live in the southwest burbs of chicago want someone local. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The best advice i can give you is to try some harder DMB songs for instance The Stone , Satellite , and so on , i wouldn't say that lessons is a bad thing , but from what i hear lessons is basically about theory , no one can teach you how to play because no one can control your hands besides yourself , personally i've never taken a single lesson and i don't need it either , everything you wanna do can be taught on your own , if you wanna learn theory it might be easier to understand with a teacher , but as far as playing goes , its all about practice , eventually it will come ....

Hope this helps

thanx yea i totally think i have the potential to pick it up on my own, but I am a visual learner thats why the videos are great. Hears my problem The videos sometimes leave somethings to be learned just from the tabs. (I totally understand how much time it must take to make those videos and I'm not bitching at all) I want to play whole songs throughout and I think I need to see the whole song and also the rythem of the strumming hand. I can play alot of the stone and the general idea of WH but I want crush bad and I can't figure it out for the life of me even if there is someone close to me that just wants someone to brings a six pack over and let me hang out and watch and learn a bit that would be great

What we always say here on these boards , download a Dave & Tim version , its so much easier to pick out the rhythms and chord changes than from the fullband versions ....

What you can try to do though , is sit down and make one strum every 2 seconds until you've been all the way through the verse , then start over and keep raising the speed a little by everytime , don't rush things , let it come on its own , and b4 you know it , you'll be playing songs without even realising it

Good luck
