well,..i think our debate is settled. i came across this verse in the old testement of the bible.
,...........and God spoke out to the great people saying, " behold i,yes i have given you life, and be not confused- for there will come a day when people will be blind and not see the one great true guitar. i have givin you every tree and plant for food, and for your music i will set forth a company and they will make the BEST guitar. they shall be called ,....martin"

I'm currently in the process of saving about $4000 (Canadian) and putting it towards either an HD-28V or 710, so, as you can probably tell by that statement, I'm currently undecided.
That said, I can't even remember what a Taylor sounds like to me. However, I've played an HD-28V recently and, based on the fact that it blew me away (not too mention everyone else in the store listening to me play some Dave on the thing

), I'd have to go with Martin for the sake of this debate.

Do yourself a favor & find a shop that has both. Play them side-by-side. Decide which YOU like. Don't let any posts/other opinions make your decision for you.
I had my heart set on a particular guitar. I played a bunch, including the one I really liked. I was still leaning toward that. I did a blind test & had the salesguy hand me a few guitars. I told him which one I liked the best. He then played each one for me. I liked the same one -- Taylor 614ce. You've really gotta go with the sound you like & the feel you like. Whether it's a Taylor, Martin, Goodall, Gibson, H&D, Breedlove, Esteban, or FirstAct. Heck, if you get the best sound out of a FirstAct and like the playability -- go for it!!

I was comparing Martins and Taylors yesterday...I still am undecided. The Martin (D-35) was much bassier than the Taylor (914)
Though, If I had my choice between the two, I would go with the 914..I think the sound is more mature than that of the Martin.
