help with knock on wood
help with knock on wood
I've got all the parts of this Justin King song down pat, except for the tapping/drumming part.. The left-handed tapping part is simple, the right handed drumming part is simple, but I simply can't play them at the same time. I've only been working at this song for an hour or so, but if anyone has advice (I know a few people on here can play this), that would be great. *keep working*
I have a feeling it will just click pretty soon, but any help would be appreciated. thanks!

well your first problem is that you have been olny working on the song for an hour.. it takes a few days to get the drumming part to go in rythm with the tapping part. Just keep plaing it over and over.. and do it slow.. listen to knock on wood in slo mo, and hear the accents of when he hits and what note he is on that second.

Doing the right hand tapping hurts the shit out my fingers!? Did you guys build up calluses before you could get the right sound out of those notes?

yeah, I've been developing a style of tapping for a few years now...my right hand finger tips don't hurt unless I do tapping for several hours straight.
If you're having trouble, I would work on static right hand tapping (a term I just made up, aka your right hand isn't sliding) for at least a week or so before you do sliding taps for any amount of time. Those can kill your fingers if you don't have calluses built up.
(example of a sliding tap:

Hey when your tapping with your right hand, is it anchored by the thumb?
I notice I can tap harder when it's anchored, but I'm positive this is incorrect technique.

the vaginal fluid they are secreting is the same composition of urine minus the uric acid and phosphorous. i learned that in 11th grade anatomy. btw, sometimes it does have a FAINT smell of Pizzle.
I find that my right hand tapping is more accurate, stronger, and sounds better when I anchor my thumb (*very* lightly*) on the top side of the neck.
As far as good/bad technique, the whole style of tapping is so up in the air, that whatever works, works. Justin does anchor his thumb in several of the videos I've seen, so you should be fine with the technique police.
If your thumb starts hurting, you're anchoring too hard. It took me a little while to get a good grip.

batstone---have you recorded knock on wood? I haven't worked on it much lately, but I'm still having some trouble with the drumming/tapping part. Could you post/link to a recording? The two videos of JK that I've found are either not very clear audio-wise, or just too fast.
thanks
thanks

i tried reading things on tapping when i was learning, i found that nothing helped, i got it when i sat down with my guitar for like four hours and just worked till i got it... it just snapped into place i sat there for longer than im proud of pushing on the fingerboard like an idiot making little to no noise, but now that i can do i dont know how to not do it... ya know? its like when you first picked up a guitar every note buzzed but no i cant make one buzz if i try... you just get the hang of it.6_strings_for_life wrote:thanks so much, how about that tab
also, where can I read up on more indepth taping?
I think there might be a thread about it, but I cant find it. If anyone knows of any articles that have to deal with taping, please let me know.
I want to learn how to do this very very badly...

edit: that song that plays when you open up that site with the tab is amazing...
