AM I Retarded!?!?!
Well .... probably ..... but thats besides the point ....
I read earlier today on here about whether Dave was self taught or not and took note of the part that Dave said one thing hsi guitar teacher told him never to stop was tapping your foot. Easy enough, I thought ... until right now when I tried tapping my foot to Jimi Thing (which resulted in an almost ungodly Sienfeld "Elaine" Dance imitation) and some other stuff which I thought shoul be pretty easy ... and I just cant get coordinated! So the answer still stands. Am I Retarded? What am I doing wrong?>
Thanks guys

sometimes when im playing my foot starts tapping. i dont even realize that im doing it. im not sure how help you out here, but i just do it without thinking, so maybe if you dont think about it one time when you look down at your foot it will be tapping along. im not sure if this helps, or if it even makes sense, its just personal experience.

yep you're definitly retarded. (though i'm not even sure i can spell it). well it's just a natural thing. you should just hit the beat with your foot. it's easier to do with recorded music, cuz it's easy for you individually to go off rthym. or at least imo.

Tapping your foot while playing is one of those things that works with some people, but just can't work with others. Some have natural coordination and don't need to, some just can't help it; and like patting your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time- some just can't do it. Maybe you are one of them, but for me I've always tapped my foot or maybe bob my head a little my whole life while playing an instument, it's just the feel.

i started out on the drums. def works for me. i can play fine w/o it, but i sometimes find myself doing it anyway. but try it. and there are two diff ways to tap your foot. on the faster stuff, you don't really have to tap it, just raise your foot up on the ball of your foot and move it up and down. practice makes perfect. for the slower stuff, do the traditional tap w/ the pivot at the heel.
