Re: artificial harmonics
you gotta have lots of distortion or sustain, im sure geekmug or grock will explain it bettercrash_in_to_me wrote:how the hell do i do these?

land your left hand on a fret.. and play the harmonic relative to it. Anything but the 1st harmonic will take some talent to find. But the first is the obvious positon (and most forgiving, because it actually moves away from actual fret wires).
Try frettin on the 3rd fret with your left-hand.. right-hand index over the 15th fret (octave) and pluck with your right-hand thumb..
or at least that is how I do it.
EDIT - haha fatjack.. maybe we aren't talking about the same thing?

im pretty sure you have to hit the string with a pick and then your nail but it has to be at a certain speed/length in between.... its freakin stuff... lol.

ok.. I know what shane is talking about.. and it's the equivalent to playing the >1st harmonics.. and it is super-easier to do it with a pick.. but takes mad talent. It's like playing a string open.. and then quickly muting the string at the harmonic node.. just happens to be ones under your right hand.. 'cause everything is symmetrically under your right-hand as well..
I'm not evening going to touch on this.. but the goal is to pick the note and then mute it with your finger on the pick.. I do it with my thumb, but I imagine you could do it with your index finger to..
*smacks forehead for forgetting this method* shows how much I play electric anymore..
