since you used the term bluesy and under $500 i would say go with a mexican made strat.
keep in mind though that it will not be good for distortion. if you want something more versatile you would want to find something with humbuckers and optional coil taps.

Yeah, if you are looking for a bluesy guitar like Clapton, a strat is the way to go (don't ever touch a squire, though, they look pretty, but I would use them as fire wood, lol). But yeah, for anything like that, a strat is a good place to go. The other guitars I would recomend would be higher than 500. Might want to check out used ones, so you can save some money for an amp.
Also, John Mayer plays 2 strats that I know of.
Peace, and happy playing

Do not get a yamaha, unless it's a vintage one in good condition. The new yamahas, IMO, are terrible. I am sorry if I offend anyone with this, I just am passionate at not liking Squire and Yamaha guitars. I have never played a yamaha that I wanted to keep playing on, and don't mention squire to me, lol.
If you are going to get any lower line guitars, if you can find a DeArmond, they are no longer made, they were the lower line of guilds. But, when Fender bought Guild, and since DeArmonds were expensive and high quality lower lines, they didn't make much money, so they cut them off. They are very good quality, I love mine.
The only other lower line electrics, I like, would have to be epiphone eleites (made the way they used to be made, much better quality. The regular ones today are better than yamaha, squire, and such, but not great).
I would think that a strat is what you want in that price range. Strats are great for blues. Eric Clapton has been playing them for years and years. They have to be somewhat good with him playing them for so many years.
so, IMO
Fender = good
Yamaha = bad
Squire = very bad
DeArmond = good
Epiphone = ok
Epiphone Eleite = good
Also, anything Gibson is good, IMO
I still think you should get a strat. And good playing with one
(again if I offended anyone with my opinions on yamaha and squire, I am sorry)

what did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking. im about to start looking into les pauls, but i don't have a lot of money. ive seen some really low end epiphone les pauls. and seen even some low end gibsons. how much do you need to spend on one to actually start getting into the "good" onesRanting Thespian wrote:My Gibson Les Paul is 20 times cleaner than any strat!
Strats are great, but Les Pauls are the best!
<=== will always love and adore Les Pauls
I wouldn't recomend getting an Epiphone LP, though, they are cheap, but not as good of quaity of a strat.

My studio, I got it fro 900 bucks. They normaly go for about 1200 or 1300. This place here in wisconsin, I got my studio from. I have a studio, and the standard, is very similar. The NEW standerds, though, have been modified. Also, I don't know of any cheap Epiphone les pauls that are "great".
here, consult the place I bought my LP from
http://www.davesguitar.com
E-mail them, they are VERY friendly, and very knowledgeble.
Like I said, though, the studio really very similar to the standard, not the brand new altered standards, but the "regular" ones. They have the same pickups and such, electronics. The studio is just more stripped down, and a somewhat different thickness of the neck. To me, though, I like the more simple look, and the sound and feel felt the same as on the standard.
Happy LP hunting

For the money, the Pacificas really aren't that bad..
I woulnd't recommend it.. if you have $500 to spend, the money would be better spent getting a better guitar (assuming you are fairly passionate about playing and guitar isn't just a phase you are going through)...
Because if you buy a cheap electric, a year or two down the road you are going to want to buy a better one.. so you're better off spending $150-$250 more and just getting a better guitar.
