The guitarist is awesome and the lead singer has a pretty cool voice. Anyone else like these guys?

i like "at the drive-in" which was the guys band before mars volta. i saw mars volta in a TINY hole in the wall club like4 years ago and i didnt know who they were. other than that ive never heard any of their stuff for more than a few seconds. you should check out at the drive-in though. they have a funk rock hip-hop sound remniscent of rage against the machine.

I love them, but their albums are frustrating to listen to sometimes. Especially on the new album, one occasionally has to sit through several minutes of random noise to get to a great song.
Pain in the ass.

Yeah I understand what you mean.. And yeah the music definietly has those haunting overtones. Although I like that kind of stuff. From what I've heard, they're first album and E.P is different form Frances the mute. Songs like Concertina and Eriatarka are really good from their earlier stuff.

Omar's guitar in Eriatarka is absolutely brilliant. It almost always is, but that song really sticks out as one of his most memorable to me.

Good band, the new album is pretty good, Deloused is much better, like Kahn said definitley check out At the Drive-In, Relationship of Command is one of my favorite cd's. Omar is definitely a kick ass player, he's done some sessions with Frusciante that are pretty insane.

Those guys are awesome. You can't just listen to one song at a time. They're the type of band where you just put the CD in and let it play without skipping around for a week or something. I get hooked and won't listen to anything else, and they're awesome live.

I totally agree with you. Whenever I listen to that album I always end up listening to the whole entire thing and not just one song. In fact that album really is one whole song, because the same chorus riff on one song will be on others. I think my favourite track on Frances the mute is track 7. I think it might be Miranda that ghost just isn't holy anymjore

I dunno.. the guy has a good voice but it just sounds like a bunch self indulgent garbled shit to me.
It's like they've taken radiohead's, zepp's and phish's sound and crammed it in a blender mixed with tight trousers and affros....the result...incoherent noise.

I wouldn't say they've copied other peoples styles. Theres is truely unique in my opinion.
