*Anger* Bustin' Strings
I am starting to get frustrated lately, as i have been breaking a string almost once a week. It is always the low E string and it always breaks right where it makes contact at the brigde. The wierdest part is that I've been playing a LOT less than usual: I gave up guitar for lent, so i only play on sundays. (i am going through withdrawal right now
Anyway, I'm using Gibson strings right now...mostly 11s and 12s. What should I do and why is it doing this?

check the "My guitar is haunted" thread. ^_^
lol.. ya, restring, but use D'Addaro my brotha. and, string it slowly, and carefully, you might be stringing it sloppily so that theres a part that can slip up on the top.. or something.

I know the feeling. I am finally realizing how shitty my cheap ibanez electric is and how whenever I try and bend strings to try and get a Santana style sound I always break a string. SHIT

If your breaking the low E up by the bridge I think your pick is catching the string to hard. Personally i've only broken the Low E twice and one was on "Too Much" which has pretty hard down strokes and an Elvis song that also has hard down strokes. I would try a differen't brand of strings, I use D'addario, and then try to hit the bass notes softer, and if that doesn't work I have know idea

As for your lent thing, you arent supposed to do the thing you give up at all INCLUDING sundays. You're just cheating.

Yea...I do nail that low E pretty hard sometimes.....
I do string the guitar myself, and i always follow a method i found online, and it doesnt seem like I'm doing it "sloppy" or anything. The coils are neat and they all look the same
It seems like a good explanation is a burr on the brigde, since it always breaks there. How should i go about smoothing that out? Just a little bit of fine sandpaper?
As for lent, I'm thankful that it's almost over....It's killing me
