John Lennon "Acoustic"

Unread post by c_tietze » Fri Dec 10, 2004 12:42 pm

Anyone check this release out? It's fairly new and has a bunch of demo A&R type songs which are all mostly acoustic. The songs are rough in many spots and you can hear the mistakes which makes this a rare look into the genesis of some of John's songs.

Another interesting thing is that all of the liner notes have the full lyrics and John's mic'd banter along with the chords and a chord chart at the back of the book - I've never seen this in a CD before.

I really don't care for Yoko but she put a nice quote in there:
"(sic) This is for the future guitarists out there, John always played from the heart, I hope you will too..."

Judy Tenuta the comedian said it best when disucssing Mark David Chapman: "If that guy would have aimed just a little to the left he would have been a hero!"

If you're a John Lennon fan, this disc is worth it. If you are a casual listener then you might want to pass up.

Peace,

CJT

I bought it the first day it came out. That and the remasterd version of john's rock and roll album. Love the acoustic one, I've listened to it over and over.

Working Class Hero is a gem.

I never usually compliment Yoko, but I appreciate her releasing this disc.

Don't diss yoko around me ;) . Don't judge her until you learn about her. Then you can see why john fell in love with her. Actualy, a lot of John's solo work was either inspired by things yoko wrote and created, or co-wrote, like Imagine.

And a lot of H too RT, don't forget that.

A man loves who he loves, regardless of his "friends'" advice. I don't think Yoko is talented or attractive, but I'm not John Lennon.

I'm not too big on Yoko, despite Lennon's feelings for her but this is a genuinely good release. Though I've heard that many of these songs appear on other Anthologies and such, its still nice to have the chord charts and lyrics for guitarists. My favorite is either Real Love or Dear Yoko. John's version of Dear Yoko sports some rather impressive guitar playing....he even manages to mix a solo in that rythmically carries the song. Thumbs UP!
