Well I'm glad i could add some craziness.
I have my own sloppy rules when it comes to notes.... i.e. I never ever have an A# - it's always a Bb. I don't know anything about theory, and when I write songs, I just go by what sounds good. I use that text file to try to figure out what key a song is in. I should just get a book and learn some more stuff.

check out the book fretboard logic by Bill Edwards, Its worth its weight in gold as far as guitar theory for begginers. Its based directly to guitar and doesn't expect you to know anything beforehand unlike most books.

in all the scales that have a flat in the name... such as Bb.. you have to write all the sharps as flats. Otherwise, this is very helpful.
